![]() On the opposite side of the coin to Jeremy Fisher in his blue jacket (bursting at the seams), is Jody Clark’s 2015 portrait of The Queen the fifth official effigy. She invested her funds into buying and conserving land and property in her beloved Lake District, the majority of which was gifted to the National Trust after her death in 1943. She’s best known for her ‘Little Tales’ but was also a well respected mycologist, renown for her watercolours of fungi. Originally written as illustrated story letters for the children of her friend, and former governess, Beatrix Potter’s stories were made all the more special by her watercolour illustrations and the immersive world she created. ![]() This cheeky character and his sisters, Moppet and Mittens, got into all sorts of trouble in Beatrix Potter’s tale, as they tried to stay clean and tidy to impress their mother’s guests. These celebrate four more of the author’s ‘Little Tales’ characters, including this coloured, silver proof coin which features the surprised face of Tom Kitten with the legend ‘TOM KITTEN’. After their popularity, another set of four Fifty Pence pieces were released by The Royal Mint in 2017. In celebration of the author’s life and work, designer Emma Noble illustrated four Fifty Pence coins with some of Potter’s beloved characters. ![]() 2016 marked the hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter.
